Spiritual benefits of Morning and evening azkar (Fortress of Muslim)

In today’s stressful world, millions of people struggle with anxiety, depression, and spiritual emptiness. Islam offers a powerful solution through the practice of morning and evening azkar, sacred prayers and remembrances taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Known as “Hisn al-Muslim” or “Fortress of the Muslim,” these daily supplications provide comprehensive spiritual protection and mental peace.

The study explores how regular recitation of azkar creates a protective shield around believers, guarding them from Satan’s negative influence and life’s daily challenges. Morning azkar, performed after Fajr prayer, strengthen the heart and mind for the day ahead, while evening azkar, recited after Maghrib, cleanse the soul and provide peaceful sleep.

Scientific research shows that dhikr (remembrance of Allah) reduces stress hormones, lowers blood pressure, and improves mental health. Beyond physical benefits, these prophetic prayers offer spiritual advantages including protection from evil eye, increased faith (iman), forgiveness of sins, and divine blessings.

Key benefits of consistent azkar (Plural of ziker/dhiker) practice include:

  • Protection from Satan and negative energies
  • Relief from anxiety and depression
  • Enhanced spiritual connection with Allah
  • Greater inner peace and confidence
  • Improved focus and mental clarity
  • Divine protection throughout day and night

This comprehensive guide demonstrates how incorporating morning and evening azkar into daily routine transforms both spiritual and psychological well-being. The more a person gets away from Allah, the more he gets trapped in troubles, difficulties and calamities. If a person wants to get rid of all these above things, then he should have to be very close to Allah.

And the best, most effective and Sunnah way of being very close to Allah is the remembrance of Allah, because when a person remembers Allah, Allah also remembers him. Therefore, Allah Almighty said:

O people, remember me and I will also remember you. (Surat al-Baqarah: 152)

2. Protection from Enemy:

People in the world have made many different rules for their friendship. When someone from their friends does not fulfill them, they become enemies and do not miss any opportunity to cause them harm.

The best method of protecting oneself from their enemies and avoiding their harm is the remembrance of Allah, as Allah Tabarak and Exalted has said in the Holy Qur’an:

O believers! When you meet enemies, remember Allah often while remaining steadfast so that you will be successful. (Surah Al-Anfal: 45)

Allah has promised a wide forgiveness and a great reward for men and women who remember Allah frequently. (Surah Al-Ahzab: 35)

5. Strength in relationship with Allah:

Satan weakens or destroys man’s relationship with Allah and makes him his slave by various methods, due to which man sinks into sins.

While Allah almighty has said that if you want to get out of the slavery of Satan and strengthen your relationship with Allah, then make a relationship with the remembrance of Allah.

6. Ease of living:

Economy means all the facilities used for living human life. Allah Ta’ala has said in the Holy Qur’an that whoever turns away from the remembrance of Me, I will restrict his economy

As if a person wants his life to be easy and spacious, then he should have a special relationship with the remembrance of Allah

7. Protection from worldly test:

Sometimes a person’s sins become trials and tribulations for him. Allah Ta’ala has ordered to turn to His remembrance to remove wordily trials and troubles.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said that sometimes a person dies because of an evil eye, because a person does not know whether he is suffering from a spiritual disease or suffering from physical illness.

One of the major spiritual benefits of azkar is that as long as one is connected with them and performs them regularly, one is completely protected from envy and evil eye. The Holy Qur’an is a great mention of Allah

In the last surah of the Holy Qur’an, a prayer is sought for Allah’s protection from jealousy and it is ordered to read this surah three times daily in the morning and evening.

It seems that the more a person remembers Allah, the more he deserves mercy and the rewards of Allah will continue to be upon him.

13. Achieving Softness of Hearts:

Hardness of heart and lack of softness in tone is a very painful thing for a person in worldly life.

A person becomes estranged from his friends and relatives and even his very closes people shy away from approaching to him just because of his bad attitude and hard tone. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has explained the reason for the remembrance of Allah to make the hearts soft and the voices smooth, so the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, has said:

Talking too much besides the remembrance of Allah is a cause of hardness of hearts and distance from Allah (Sunan Tirmidhi: 2411).

Man is in need of Allah Almighty at all times, except for him, there is no one capable of relieving man’s difficulties or fulfilling his needs. The supplication of one who mentions Allah often is not rejected. (Silsila Sahiha: 1211)

The whole existence of man is loaded with the favors and rewards of Allah Ta’ala. In return for all these favors, man only is ordered to thank Allah Ta’ala, while the easiest way of thanking Allah Ta’ala has been mentioned by the Prophet of Allah, peace be upon him. The Prophet ﷺ said:

If a person recites the following dua in the morning, he will give thanks to Allah in the morning, and if he recites it in the evening, he will give thanks to Allah in the evening. (Sahih Ibn Hibban: 861)

O Allah, whatever blessing has been received by me or anyone of Your creation is from You alone, You have no partner. All praise is for you and thanks is to You.

16. Relief from troubles:

A person faces numerous problems in twenty-four hours. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, described the best solution to get rid of problems, the remembrance of Allah. If he reads it, then Allah will suffice him from all the troubles of this world and the hereafter. (Sunan Abi Dawud: 5081)

17. Receiving the prayers of the angels:

Man is always in need of duas because he does not know who will supplicate for him and may Allah grant His mercy. The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has also called the remembrance of Allah as the reason for receiving the supplications of the angels.

A person who recites Tawz three times in the morning and recites Surah al-Hashr once, seventy thousand angels pray for him, and whoever does this in the evening, seventy thousand angels pray for him in the morning. (Sunan Tirmidhi: 2923)

Among the creations of Allah, there are many poisonous ones, the bite of which sometimes causes the death of a person, and sometimes the person becomes very sick. The Prophet (peace be upon him) has said that whoever recites the following words three times in the morning and in the evening, nothing harmful will harm him. (Sunan Tirmidhi: 3388)

In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

19. Relief from Debts:

A person has to make many transactions with others in their daily life. Sometimes a person goes so far in the transaction that he gets overindebted.

Although the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sought refuge with Allah from debt, because after being in debt, a person lies and breaks his promise.

Although debt is not a good thing, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has made the simple solution of getting rid of debt also count as the remembrance of God. So a person in debt came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he advised him to recite the following words: A few days later, when he came again, his entire debt had been cleared. (Al-Bukhari 7/158)

O Allah! I seek refuge with You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from being heavily in debt, and from being overpowered by (other) men.
